The title is: An evaluation of HRM in /at …….

The main issue is Research human resource management issues, questioning why and how the HR function works in organisations.

 

 

The purpose of this report is threefold.

 

 

Firstly, being able to critically evaluate what, how and why certain HR practices are carried out, and to what effect.

 

 

 

Secondly being able to balance against tested models and theories together with the latest research evidence and thinking i.e. when do I need to apply the theory and when do I need to question the theory?

 

 

 

 

Finally, when you become a manager you will need to know what the HR department does but more important is to know how they can support you in developing your planning and the staff you are responsible for.

 

 

This report will help you to think HRM through in a very practical way by using a real organisation.

As of 2016, the Apple Computer Company was operating brick-and-mortar retail stores in more than 18 different countries around the world, including the U.S., where it has retail stores in 45 out of 50 states.  However, Apple products are also sold in retail stores like Target and Best Buy in those states not lucky enough to have a brick-and-mortar Apple retail store.  And, of course, all Apple products can be purchased through the Internet Apple Store online.

 

In addition to these international brick-and-mortar international retail stores, Apple was operating 23 additional Internet retail shopping websites around the world as of January 2016.

 

As of January 2016, there are more than 450 Apple retail stores in operation around the world, which employ about 50,000 people.

The models overviewed in class regarding HR roles and which can be adopted are: The HR business partner model (or else-how Ulrich’s model), the Matching model (or else-how Michigan model), and the Harvard model.

 

 

 

  1. HR methods – Weighting 20% (maximum 500 words)

 

 

Answer questions, such as:

 

 

  1. Which theoretical model are you adopting to evaluate the HR methods employed by your investigated organisation in resourcing and managing employees? Briefly describe it.

 

  1. Why are you adopting this model? Critical analysis.

 

 

  1. Evaluate the framework you used by bringing in literature references.

 

 

The models overviewed in class regarding HR methods in resourcing and managing employees and which you can adopt are: The hard and the soft model of HRM.

 

 

 

  1. Evaluating processes and methods of development – Weighting 35% (maximum 800 words)

 

 

Answer questions, such as:

 

  1. Which theoretical model are you adopting to evaluate employee and management development processes and methods in your investigated organisation? Briefly describe it.

 

 

  1. Why are you adopting this model? Critical analysis.

 

 

  1. Evaluate the framework you used by bringing in literature references.

 

 

 

The models overviewed in class regarding employee and management development methods and which can be adopted are: The systematic model, the strategic model, the MAGIC model, formal/informal employee and management development methods, no systematic management development, isolated tactical management development, integrated and coordinated structural and development tactics, a management development strategy to implement corporate policy, management development strategy input to corporate policy formulation, and strategic development of the management of corporate policy.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Conclusion – Weighting 20% (maximum 120 words)

 

 

Provide suggestions/recommendations on why and how the organisation you investigate could improve the areas you analysed (i.e. Subsections 2, 3, 4) by following the best practice of the models you overviewed. Use some literature here to justify your suggestions. Answer questions, such as:
